CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team held No. 2 West Florida to just one goal in the opening half, but the Argonauts were able to add two in the second half to pull away for a 3-0 win, on Saturday at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UWF opened the scoring in the 20th minute, following a corner kick, when Celine Rumpf fired a shot into the back after a deflection.
- The Lady Statesmen had their lone chance of the first half when Sevillano attempted to lob a shot past the UWF goalkeeper, from long range.
- UWF outshot the Lady Statesmen 9-1 in the first 45 minutes.
- The Argos added to their lead in the 70th minute, when Jessica Quixley followed up a goal line clearance, to make it 2-0.
- Grace Busby finished the scoring in the 85th minute, as she finished a cross from Elizabeth Vickers.
- UWF finished the game with a 16-4 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
- Heather Travis made three saves for DSU.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- The stifling UWF defense held the Lady Statesmen to just four shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The three goals allowed by the Lady Statesmen are the fewest they have allowed to UWF since dropping a 2-0 decision in 2014.
