HUNTSVILLE, Ala -- The Delta State University softball team dropped a close contest to No. 6 Southern Indiana, but bounced back to defeat Indianapolis 10-1 in five innings to wrap up the final day of the UAH Charger Chillout, on Friday at the Kiwanis Sportsplex.

GAME 1: No. 6 SOUTHERN INDIANA 6, DELTA STATE 4
 
Game Changer
- With the game tied at four in the fifth Southern Indiana attempted a sacrifice bunt, but the runner on first advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly by the next batter.

Inside the Box Score
- The Lady Statesmen outhit USI 7-6.
- Six Lady Statesmen recorded hits, including Marissa Landrum, who finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
- DSU recorded three extra base hits, as Landrum and Mallory Myers had a double and Kelly Byrd had a triple.
- Madison Bigner allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits with three walks and a strikeout in her first career start. Mari Alex Sandridge (0-3) took the loss, as she surrendered two runs, one
  earned, on just one hit in 3.2 innings of relief.

- DSU opened the scoring in the second on a two-RBI single by Landrum.
- USI answered in the bottom of the inning when it capitalized on an error and three RBI singles.
- The Lady Statesmen added a run in the third on a sac fly by Byrd, and tied the game in the fifth on a sac fly by Carlie Vice.
- USI scored what proved to be the winning run in the fifth on a sac fly by Caitlyn Bradley, and finished the scoring with a sac fly in the seventh. 

 
Noteworthy
- The triple by Byrd was her second of the season and her second in as many games.
- The Lady Statesmen have had an extra base hit in all but three of their games.
- DSU suffered its second defeat of the season when outhitting its opponent.
- Landrum recorded hits in five of her last six at bats.
- DSU has now played four of its 10 games against ranked opponents.

Game Changer
- With DSU up 4-0 in the fourth inning, Vice smashed a three-run home run to put the Lady Statesmen up 7-0.

Inside the Box Score
- The Lady Statesmen outhit the Greyhounds 9-4.
- Olivia Dick (2), Mallory Myers (2), and Byrd (3) all recorded multiple hits for the Green-and-White. Byrd, who finished with four RBIs, reached base safely all four trips.
- The Lady Statesmen had two sacrifice fly's giving them four total in the last two games.
- Taylor Johnson (3-2) allowed just three hits in four innings of work.

 
Key Plays
- DSU took a 1-0 lead when Myers scored on Abi Gibson's sac fly.
- The Lady Statesmen scored three runs in the second on a pair of two-RBI singles by Mari Alex Sandridge and Byrd.
- With two outs in the fourth, Vice's three-run home run to left center gave DSU a 7-0 lead.
- UINDY scored its lone run of the game in the fifth on an RBI single.

Noteworthy
- The loss for UINDY marked just its second mercy rule defeat in its last 75 games.
- Byrd's four RBI's are the most for a DSU player this season. The Terry, Miss., native is six for her last 10 and has reached base safely nine times in the last four games.
- Two DSU victories this season have come via the mercy rule.

- The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to travel to Fairfiled, Ala., for a non-conference doubleheader with Miles College. DSU defeated the Golden Bears 11-2 (6) on Feb. 3.
