CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University softball team earned a pair of come-from-behind victories over visiting Shorter, in Gulf South Conference action, on Saturday at University Field.
GAME 1: DELTA STATE 8 (16-16, 7-9 GSC), SHORTER 7 (12-14, 7-8 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
- Trailing 7-1 in the bottom of the third the Lady Statesmen collected three extra base hits, including a pair of home runs to cut the lead to 7-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen outhit Shorter 11-10.

Madison Bigner,
Carlie Vice and
Olivia Dick collected two hits apiece to lead DSU.

Kelly Byrd, and
Marissa Landrum had doubles.
- Bigner and Vice each hit a home run. Bigner and Landrum drove in two runs apiece.

Nicole Fullilove (3-1) surrendered one run on four hits in five innings of relief.
KEY PLAYS:
- Shorter jumped ahead scoring five runs in the first inning, using a three-run home run and a two-RBI double.
- The visitors made it 7-1 in the third on a two-run home run by Ashley Langel.
- Byrd doubled to left center, Bigner hit a two-run home run and Vice hit a solo shot to help the Lady Statesmen score four runs in the third.
- The Lady Statesmen took the lead for good in the fourth, as Landrum's double scored a pair and
Abi Gibson had a sacrifice bunt that scored Landrum.
- Shorter stranded runners in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

NOTEWORTHY:
- The home run for Bigner was her second in the last three games.
- DSU has been outscored 30-14 in the first inning.
- The Lady Statesmen won their second game (2-7) when an opponent scored between 6-9 runs.
Game 2: DELTA STATE 3 (17-16, 8-9 GSC) SHORTER (12-15, 7-9 GSC)

- The Lady Statesmen scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to earn the comeback win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both teams had eight hits.
- Jones led the Lady Statesmen with three hits, while Byrd added a pair.Â

Olivia Dick scored two the three runs.

Kailyn Lofton had a double to start the seventh inning rally.

Taylor Johnson (7-7) went the distance and allowed one earned run on eighth hits, with four strikeouts.
KEY PLAYS:
- Shorter opened the scoring in the top of the first on on an RBI single to right field.
- Bigner tied the game in the third with a sacrifice fly.
- The visitors took the lead in the sixth on a dropped fly ball.
- Shorter tried to add to its lead in the sixth, with a pair of runners on and just one out, but Johnson got a strikeout and a batters interference to end the inning.
- Lofton led off the seventh with a double, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
- A sacrifice fly by
Mallory Myers scored Lofton, and
Olivia Dick, who reached on an error, scored the game-winning run on Jone's single to right center.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The complete game was the fourth of the season for Johnson.
- DSU has now won three games when trailing after six innings.
- The Lady Statesmen have outscored opponents 13-9 in the seventh inning.
- The four-game win streak is the longest of the year for DSU.
- With the victories, DSU earned its first GSC series win.
