FLORENCE, Ala. -- No. 6 seed West Florida overcame an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the Delta State University softball team 5-4, in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, on Friday at the UNA Softball Complex. The loss eliminated the Lady Statesmen from the tournament.

- In the top of the first inning a pair of infield hits and a hit by pitch helped set up Byrd, who's grand slam gave the Lady Statesmen a 4-0 lead.
- UWF scored its first run of the contest in the bottom of the first, as Meghan Toney doubled to score Jibrasha Moore.
- After scoring single runs in the second and fourth inning, the Argonauts tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Mika Garcia.
- UWF scored what proved to be the game-winning run, in the bottom of the seventh on a two out single by pinch-hitter Kara Wilson.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Byrd's 11 home runs are tied for tied for seventh in single season school history, while her 50 RBIs are tied for eighth.
- DSU finished the yar 5-17 when being outhit by its opponent, and 10-7 in one run games.
- The Lady Statesmen lost for just the sixth time (13-6) this year when scoring in the first inning.
