CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Delta State men's and women's swimming and diving teams play host to Rhodes College (Tenn.) Saturday, October 5th, at the
Ronnie Mayers Aquatics Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon. The matchup against Rhodes will be Delta State's second meet of the 2019-2020 campaign.
The Green and White had a great showing against the division one opponent Alabama in their home opener, winning five events including sweeping the men's one meter diving.
Giulio Brugnoni for the third straight year, won the race by over a second and a half. He swam it in in 48.28, while second place did it in 50.64. In the very next race,
Madison Lavoie won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04:75. She repeated the victory from her freshman campaign over Alabama. The 200 yard butterfly brought the next DSU victory as Matey Reszashki won his first race against Alabama with a time of 1:51:89. Lavoie made it double in the breaststroke winning the 200 yard event in 2:19:07. Rezashki took second in the men's 200 yard butterfly as well with a time of 2:04:07 Brugnoni snagged second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49.61.
The Statesmen put up a great showing on the boards, sweeping the one meter diving competition.
Jawone Blankenship won his first event as he scored 289.27 points.
Kyle Weesner took second and
Alex Burt grabbed third place. In the women's one meter,
Gillian Pratt was the highest finisher coming in fourth and fresh man Maddie Prusinowski came in fifth. Pratt also finished second in the three meter diving on the women's side. On the men's three meter, Weesner grabbed second place as well.
