GULF SHORES, Ala. – Kelly Byrd belted a home run and had four RBIs to lead Delta State University softball (2-0) to an 11-3 win over Miles College (0-2) in game two at the Gulf Shores Invitational on Friday.
The Lady Statesmen fell to Sunshine State member Embry-Riddle University 7-0 in game one.
Carlie Vice went 2-for-4 to lead DSU in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Embry-Riddle (GM1)
- In the third, Katy Thompson's single to left field drove in Jayla Jackson giving Embry-Riddle a 1-0 lead.
- Embry-Riddle would score two more runs, one after Jamie Mead's single to center field drove in Jayla Jackson. Savannah Brokenbrough drove in the last run of the inning with a single to left field that plated Jamie Mead.
- Embry-Riddle would extend their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning on a two-run triple by Thompson and an RBI single by Jamie Mead.
- Lisa Hop would reach home on an error in the sixth inning for the final run off the game.
- The Lady Statesmen loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth innings but were unable capitalize on the threat.
ON THE MOUND vs. Embry-Riddle (GM1)
- Nichol Fullilove (0-1) gave up three runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk as the pitcher of record for the Lady Statesmen.
- Jayla Jackson (1-0) struck out six batters while scattering four hits over seven shutout innings for the Eagles.

- The Lady Statesmen were outhit 8-7.
- Carlie Vice (2-for-4) was the only DSU player with multiple hits.
- Lady Statesmen starting pitcher Nicole Fullilove (0-1) gave up three runs off four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Miles College (GM2)
- Miles College was first on the board in the first inning on an Alexus Gonzalez RBI bunt single.
- Miles College extended their lead 3-0 in the first when Zakierra Webb stole home and followed by Crislyn Graham's RBI single.
- Kelly Byrd cut Delta State's deficit 3-2 in the third on a two-run single to center field.
- Lady Statesmen claimed the lead 4-3 in the third inning after a solo home run and by Byrd and an RBI-double to left field by Kailyn Lofton.
- DSU added two more in the fourth inning extending their lead 6-3 after Abi Gibson drove one run in and Mallory Myers reached home on a wild pitch.
- Lady Statesmen plated five more in the fifth to end the game by the NCAA Mercy Ruler Miles College 11-3. Byrd drove in a run on a double and Tamia Johnson double in the final two runs to highlight the inning.
ON THE MOUND vs. Miles (GM2)
- DSU starting pitcher Mari Alex Sandridge (1-0) gave up three runs off five hits in her first win of the season.
- Megan Rich (0-1) took the loss for Miles, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on six hits with a pair of strikeouts
