Ragland Collects First GSC Player Of The Week Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University baseball player Chad Ragland was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 11, his first such honor. 

The Jacksonville, Fla., native hit .455 (5-for-11) and scored four runs out of the leadoff spot for the Statesmen. Ragland also walked three times and was hit by a pitch twice to register a .625 on base percentage. 

The junior outfielder went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in Delta State's series opening 7-6 win over Lynn. In game two of the series, Ragland walked twice, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and stole a base in a 13-4 win. He then followed that up with a 1-for-3 performance in game three that included a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Ragland also reached base via a hit by pitch for the second time in the series. 

Cartwright was 17-for-30 (57 percent) from the floor for the weekend and has registered double-doubles in four consecutive for the Green-and-White. 

The Diamond Statesmen hit the road to begin GSC play this weekend with a weekend series in Huntsville, Ala., against the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Saturday, Feb. 15 will feature a double header between the two games beginning at 1 p.m., with a single game on Sunday, Feb. 16 to follow at 1 p.m.
