CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking loss to the University of West Georgia on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinal matchup of the Gulf South Conference tournament.
Neither team was able to score in regulation or the two overtime periods and UWG won 4-2 on penalty kicks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team was able to get any pressure early. Lavinia Horning had the first shot of the game for DSU in the 12th minute and forced a save from the UWG goalkeeper.
- Early in the second half, Mia Ramirez, Poppy Derhun, and Carra Hymel all had shots for DSU, but all three shots were saved.
- Mackenzie Thomspon, Jae'lasha Julien and Ramirez had more opportunities late in the second half but could not convert.
- In the first overtime period, Derhun had two scoring chances that went wide.
- In the second overtime period, Jennifer Lopez and Julien both had shots that were saved.
- Lavinia Horning and Derhun each scored a penalty for the Lady Statesmen while Hilary Resendiz, Lauren O'Neill, Florence Pegrum, and Jade Butcher scored for UWG.
