CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University baseball team (16-10, 13-10 GSC) used a three-run third inning to claim a 6-1 win over No. 25 Southern Arkansas University (17-6, 13-5 GAC) on Tuesday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Blake Wolferding walked and scored on a wild pitch to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
- Southern Arkansas tied the game 1-1 when Mason Peterson was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
- Three runs crossed the plate in the third to break the tie and give the Statesmen a 4-1 lead. Darek Sargent walked and Chad Ragland was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Kirkland Trahan drew a one-out walk to load the bases, and Wolferding singled home Sargent.
- Ragland then scored on an error and Wolferding scored the final run of the inning on a Josh Smeltzer sac-fly.
- Smeltzer singled and scored on a sacrifice squeeze bunt Kade Dees give DSU a 5-1 lead after six innings.
- Jake Barlow reached on error and scored when Sargent reached on a fielder's choice to make the score 6-1 in the eighth.
- Kole Kittrell came on in the ninth to record a fly out to end the game with two runners on base.
ON THE MOUND
- Cade Whitley (2-0) yielded one run on one hit with two strikeouts in 2.2 inning to pick up the win.
- Dakota Frachiseur (0-1) gave up four runs, two earned, on one hits with a strikeout and three walks as losing pitcher for SAU.
- Jackson Rutledge tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, scattering three hits with three strikeouts out of the Statesmen bullpen.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Trahan, Wolferding, Smeltzer and Pratt each collected base hits to account for the four Statesmen hits.
- Riley Orr had two hits to lead SAU, which had five hits.
- The Statesmen stranded seven men on base while SAU stranded 11.
