Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida (33-9) rode the strength of a four-run sixth inning to take a 5-2 win over the Delta State University baseball team (28-17) in game two of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Championship series on Wednesday at Jim Spooner Field.
The win evened the series at 1-1 to set up a winner take all title game on Thursday at 2 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Matthew Estrada RBI ground out gave West Florida a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
- UWF scored four runs in the sixth to build a 5-0 lead. Dylan Menhennett and Adam Imwalle had an RBI singles, and the third run came home on a throwing error. An Estrada sac-fly plated the final run of the inning.
- Kirkland Trahan and Blayke Dendy delivered RBI singles in the sixth to cut the UWF lead to 5-2.
ON THE MOUND
- Christian Day (7-3) gave up five runs, three earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts as the pitcher of record for the Statesmen.
- Tyler Dowdy (6-1) struck out eight while allowing two runs on four hits in 8.1 innings to pick up the win.
- Brenden Case (7) recorded the final two outs via strikeouts in the ninth to earn the save for UWF.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Day suffered his first loss in his last six starts.
- Jake Barlow, Dendy, Shows and Trahan accounted the Statesmen four hits.
- Mehennett's first inning single extended his UWF record hitting streak to 31 games.
