PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The University of West Florida (36-9) plated seven runs in the first two innings on the way to a 10-3 win and eliminated the Delta State University baseball team (28-20) from the NCAA Division II South Region Baseball Tournament on Friday at Jim Spooner Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida scored a run on a throwing error and scored twice on sac-flies by Matthew Estrada and Adam Imwalle to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
- Wyatt Pratt drew a bases loaded walk trail 3-1 but that was all the Statesmen would get leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the first.
- An Imwalle RBI single sandwiched between two runs scoring on a pair of throwing errors and a sac-fly gave UWF a 7-1 lead in the second.
- Cullen O'Shea hit a solo home run to push UWF's advantage to 8-1.
- Josh Smeltzer singled home a run to make the score 8-2 in the sixth.
- West Florida added two runs as Justin Dunnam's two-run double down made the score 10-2.
- Blayke Dendy doubled and scored on a Trahan single up the middle to cut the deficit to 10-3.
ON THE MOUND
- Christian Day (7-4) last just one inning, giving up six runs, only one earned, on three hits to take the loss for the Statesmen.
- Jackson Rutledge tossed 6.1 innings allowing two runs, one earned, with six strikeouts and no walks in relief of Day.
- UWF starter Tyler Dowdy (7-1) gave up three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks to earn the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- This was the seventh meeting between the two schools this season at Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola, Fla., with the Statesmen playing as the home team in six of the contests.
- The game saw a 20-minute delay when two light polls in left field lost power and a 2:28 rain/lightning delay.
- Rutledge tossed 16.2 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, with 19 strikeouts and two walks in the post season for the Statesmen.
- Dendy and Trahan each had doubles as the extra base hits for the Statesmen.
- Dendy and Sargent were the only Statesmen with multiple hits, with two apiece.
- The Statesmen last went 0-2 in a regional in 2014.
