OXFORD, Ala. -- Kirkland Trahan went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to pace the Delta State University baseball team (25-15) to a 12-2 run-rule win over Valdosta State (24-15, GSC) in game two of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Tournament at Choccolocco Park.
Jake Barlow and
Wyatt Pratt also drove in three runs apiece, while
Hunter Riggins posted his second straight complete game with eight strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two runs scored in the top of the second to stake the Statesmen to a 2-0 lead. Blayke Dendy was hit by a pitch and scored on a Kade Dees ground out, while Wyatt Pratt singled and scored on a Darek Sargent single to left field.
- Kirkland Trahan doubled and scored on a Jake Barlow single to center to make the score 3-0 in the third.
- Sargent started the Statesmen fourth inning with a single and scored as Trahan rolled a base hit through the right side for a 4-0 lead.
- Jakob Sessa tripled and scored on a David Maberry groundout to get the Blazers on the board down 4-1.
- Trahan and Wyatt Pratt hit two, two-run home runs to extend the lead to 8-1 in the seventh.
- Four runs crossed the plate for the Statesmen as the lead grew to 12-1 in the eighth. Smeltzer drew a bases-loaded walk followed by a Dendy sac-fly to right and a Barlow two-run triple.
- Valdosta State added a run in the bottom of the ninth only to see Riggins roll a double play to end the game
ON THE MOUND
- Riggins (8-4) struck out eight Blazers while yielding two runs on five hits with four walks for his second straight win on the mound for DSU.
- Elijah Gill (2-5) gave up seven runs on 12 hits with a walk and seven strikeouts to take the loss for the Blazers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Trahan went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored, his 18th multi-hit game of the year.
- Barlow was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and three RBI.
- Pratt had three hits, including a home run and three RBI.
- Riggins has allowed three runs in 30 career GSC Tournament innings and is now 3-1 with a save.
- VSU's run sixth inning run snapped a string of 21 straight scoreless innings for Riggins in GSC Tournament play.
