Late Overtime Goal Pushes Palm Beach Atlantic Past Delta State

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Nicola Hauk found a game-tying goal late in regulation for the Delta State University women's soccer team, but the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish tallied a goal in the second overtime period to down the Lady Statesmen on Friday night at the PBA Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams played defense well in the opening portion of the contest, with the squads combining for six first-half shots.
  • Scoring began late in the game, in the 71st minute, when Maddie McCarty delivered a cross to Kylie Meola, who connected on the header to put PBA up 1-0.
  • The Lady Statesmen earned a corner kick in the 81st minute, and a deflection found the foot of Nicola Hauk, who slammed home a right-footed strike to tie the game 1-1.
  • The two teams headed to overtime, where both sides played a scoreless first overtime period.
  • Five minutes into the second overtime, Sydney Timmes scored off a free kick to notch her first game-winning goal for the Sailfish.

  • The Sailfish took 10 shots to Delta State's four.
  • Delta State notched an extra save (2 for DSU, 1 for PBA).
