Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Delta State University women's soccer team used two early goals to defeat the University of Montevallo on Friday evening for its first win of the season, the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams.
It is the second straight win for DSU over Montevallo. The Lady Statesmen defeated the Falcons at home in the 2020 GSC Spring Championship series last March.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen capitalized early in the match as Poppy Derhun scored on the first shot of the game, just three minutes into the contest.
- In the 19th minute, Madison Lafontaine's shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar.
- Just two minutes later, Carra Hymel's cross found Lavinia Horning who headed it into the back of the net.
- Nicola Hauk had a long range shot in the 37th minute that just missed the target.
- In the 73rd minute, Montevallo pulled one back after Avery Campbell scored on a free kick.
- Amanda Hilliard punched a Montevallo free kick over the bar in the 88th minute to help preserve the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both Derhun and Horning scored the first their first career goals for the Green and White.
- Both teams had 12 shots in the game, with DSU leading the shots on target 5-3.
- The Lady Statesmen had nine fouls to Montevallo's five.
