LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Delta State University Women's Soccer (10-6-3 overall, 7-4-2 GSC) fought hard for 110 minutes worth of regulation and overtime periods, but came up just short in penalty kicks on Sunday. Seven Lady Statesmen recorded 90+ minutes of action in the game against a tenacious West Alabama (10-5-2, 9-3-1) team. The tie in Sunday's game is the only blemish in an otherwise 7-0-1 home record for the Lady Tigers.
West Alabama took the lead at 20:41 on a goal by Mikayla Anderson. The Lady Statesmen answered less than four minutes later on a goal by
Jae'lasha Julien at 24:14 with an assist credited to
Robyn Moody. Delta State outshot West Alabama 17-12 in total shots for the game, but the Tigers had a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Bailey Daughtery recorded 8 saves in her 110 minutes of action.
The Lady Statesmen were able to pressure the Lady Tigers in the late stages of the game, outshooting UWA 7-2 in the overtime periods, but the Lady Tigers took care of business in their penalty kick attempts. West Alabama made 4 of their 5 penalty kick attempts to Delta State's 2 to advance to the next round of the GSC tournament.
