ROME, Ga. -- Shorter University used a seven-run eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and grab a 12-5 win over the Delta State University baseball team on Sunday at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carson Clowers doubled home Kirkland Trahan and Brett Cobb to give the Statesmen a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
- Shorter scored twice to knot the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
- A Jason Pajer three-run home run gave the Hawks a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning.
- The Statesmen struck for three runs in the eighth to tie the game 5-5. Brett Cobb walked and scored on a Chad Ragland ground and Hayden Cooper hit a two-run home run with Dalton Cummins on base.
- Lyndon Weaver belted a grand slam to highlight a seven-run seventh break a 5-5 game and give the Hawks a 12-5 lead.
ON THE MOUND
- Harrison Haley started and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
- Steven Lacey (0-1) allowed four runs on two hits with a pair of walks as the pitcher of record for Delta State.
- Andrew Asselin (1-0) gave up one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings and one hit allowed to pick up the win for Shorter.
NOTEABLES
- Cooper's two-run home run eighth was his second home run of the series and team-leading third homer of the season.
- Clowers had a two-run double which was also his first double at DSU.
- Pajer and Weaver combined to drive in seven of the Hawks' 12 runs.
