Statesmen Sweep Road Doubleheader From UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Delta State University baseball team combined for 30 runs and 35 hits to sweep a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the University of Alabama at Huntsville on Saturday at Charger Park.

The Statesmen claimed an 18-3 run-rule win in game one and a 12-4 win in the nightcap.

 HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
  • Leading 5-3, the Statesmen scored seven runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to break the game open. 
  • Blayke Dendy hit a solo home run and a two-run double while Noah Thigpen and Ragland belted round-trippers in the fifth. 
  • Ragland delivered an RBI single and Hayden White and Dendy drove in two runs with singles to make the score 18-3 in the sixth. 
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
  • Landon Zizmann (3-0) notched the complete-game win, yielding three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts against no walks. 
  • Kody Keiser (0-3) gave up eight runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts and a walk to take the loss for UAH.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
  • The Statesmen scored two runs in the second and third innings to build a 4-0 lead. 
  • Barlow homered and Carson Clowers singled in a run in the second and Thigpen doubled home two runs in the fourth. 
  • UAH plated two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-2. 
  • Delta State added a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead. 
  • Dendy singled home Ragland in the fourth. 
  • Dees singled in Thigpen followed by a White two-run single while Ragland came home on a Hayden Cooper groundout in the fifth inning. 
  • A Landon Ezell two-run home run trimmed DSU's lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the fifth. 
  • Barlow hit his second home run of the game and Wyatt Pratt singled and scored on a Ragland sac-fly to push the lead to 11-4 in the sixth.
  • The Statesmen added another run in the seventh to make the score 12-4
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
  • Harrison Haley (3-0) tossed his second straight complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts to earn the win.
  • Tyler Self (1-2) gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks to take the game two loss for UAH.
NOTABLES 
  • Ragland went 5-for-6 with three RBI and four runs scored and is the first Statesmen to hit for the cycle since Jake Barlow against Union University in 2019. Ragland had two doubles, one triple, and a home run in game one. 
  • Dendy finished game one 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI. 
  • The Statesmen scored a season-high 18 runs and pounded out a season-high 22 hits in game one. 
  • Ten of the 22 hits were for extra bases, including four home runs, one triple, and five doubles. 
  • The 18 runs in game one were also a season-high. 
  • The game-one win was the second GSC win by the NCAA run-rule. 
  • Barlow belted three home runs on the day and is now tied with Devin Goodwin for fifth on DSU's career home runs list with 37. 
  • Thigpen went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead four Statesmen with multiple hits in game two.
  • White and Clowers finished 2-for-4, and Barlow was 2-for-3 in game two.
