OXFORD, Ala. -- No. 1 seed Delta State University baseball scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie and stay alive with a 10-6 win over the University of Montevallo at the 2022 Gulf South Conference Tournament on Sunday at Choccolocco Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Kirkland Trahan RBI ground out followed by a Blayke Dendy RBI single gave the Statesmen a 2-0 first inning lead.
- Montevallo scored twice to tie the game 2-2 in the third. Jake Smallwood got a run home on a sac-fly, and Reed Latimer singled home Ben Teel.
- Zen Hiatt belted a two-run home run to break the tie and give the Falcons a 4-2 lead in the sixth.
- The Statesmen plated four runs in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead. Dendy had an RBI single, and Dalton Cummins doubled in the tying run. A Clowers sac-fly and Ragland RBI gave DSU a 6-4 lead.
- Montevallo scratched two runs across to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the eighth.
- Delta State plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 10-6 lead. Wyatt Pratt singled in the go-ahead run, followed by a Clowers run-scoring single and a Chad Ragland two-run double.
- Steven Lacey struck out Hiatt to record a scoreless ninth and seal the win.
ON THE MOUND
- Delta State starter Hammer Franks allowed two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
- Trace McNabb (3-0) picked up the win, giving up one hit in a third of an inning.
- Brooks Cooner gave up one run on one hit in a third of an inning as the losing pitcher for the Falcons.

- Ragland posted three hits with three RBI.
- Dendy finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and has collected 10 RBI in the tournament.
