Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer program picked up its first win of the 2022 season, blanking the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis by a score of two-nil at Delta Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
Bailey Daugherty notched her third career shutout between the pipes, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard while facing 11 shots.
 
Hannah James got the scoring started with the Lady Statesmen's first goal of the season in the 17th minute, a beautifully placed arching corner kick that she lofted into the top-left corner of the net for an unassisted masterpiece.
 
It was the junior's second career score and first since October 13, 2019 versus Union (Tennessee), connecting on her lone shot of the afternoon.
 
A "magical" connection was born between Louisiana natives Carra Hymel and Jae'Lasha Julien against the Tritons as the two linked up multiple times in the attacking zone, one of which finding the back of the net during the 37th minute of play when Hymel snuck one past USML keeper Paige Schwartz with the assist going to James.
 
Hymel now boasts four goals over 57 games for the Green and White while her four shots on the day was a game high. The one-touch pass from James was her first point and assist as a member of the DSU women's soccer team, getting in a shot as well.
 
Other shot takers for Coach Hiller's squad Ella McQueen (2), Rylee McGee (1), Robyn Moody (1), and Chloe Jackson (1).
 
Delta State had four corner kicks compared to UMSL's one chance while the Lady Statesmen played a much cleaner contest with seven fouls to the Tritons' 13.
