CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Statesmen soccer team (1-1-2) controlled the run of play from wire-to-wire in a 3-0 victory over Harding University at Stevens Soccer Complex in Searcy, Ark. Sunday afternoon.
Delta State dominated possession from kickoff, producing with two early goals by senior midfielder
Tom Toulson and sophomore forward
James Lynch. Toulson scored his second goal of the game and of the season to further the Statesmen's lead with just 16 seconds to go in the first half.
The Statesmen defense was stout throughout the match, allowing only six shots and two shots on goal from Harding (0-4). Freshman goalkeeper
Hayden Flynn tallied two saves in earning his first clean sheet of the season.
