HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Statesmen received the kickoff to start the game, but both teams punted after their first possessions. Delta State received UWF's punt at their own 7-yard line. Seven plays later, Patrick Shegog hit Nathan Howard with plenty of blockers in front of him to take it 64 yards for a DSU score. Nick Herber's PAT was good. 7-0 Delta State.
  • A touchback gave UWF the ball at their own 25. Four plays later, UWF quarterback Peewee Jarrett was sacked by Demario Martin who forced and recovered a fumble on the play, returning it to the UWF 8. Shegog hit Tycen Gray in for a 4-yard score three plays later. 14-0 Delta State.
  • Jarrett fumbled the ball again three plays later, recovered by DSU's Demetrius Swilley at the UWF 37. DSU was forced to punt. The Argos punted on the following drive as well. Delta State scored on their first drive of the second quarter, moving 73 yards in just five plays, such as 22 and 26-yard completions from Shegog to Jaylen May, the second of which was a touchdown pass. 21-0 Delta State.
  • West Florida drove down as far as the DSU 5 on their next drive, but settled for an 18-yard field goal attempt that clanked the left upright. Delta State scored two drives later as Shegog hit Katerian LaGrone for a 19-yard score as he dove into the endzone. 28-0 Delta State.
  • DSU got the ball back at their own 20 after a touchback on an Argo punt. The Statesmen drove all 80 yards in just five plays as Shegog hit Jaylen Green in the endzone as time expired for his fifth touchdown pass of the first half. 35-0 Delta State at halftime.
  • West Florida found their first points of the game on their third drive of the third quarter as Jarrett connected with Jackson Blalock for a 71-yard score on a double-reverse flea flicker play. 35-7 Delta State.
  • Delta State was forced to punt on their next drive, but Jarrett threw a pass three plays later right at DSU's Freddrick Hervey who capitalized with a pick-six to extend the DSU lead. 42-7 Delta State.
  • Jarrett hit Anthony Ballard for a 46-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter. 42-14 Delta State.
  • Delta State's next drive was a lengthy 11-play, 80-yard drive that took over six minutes off the clock, ending with a 5-yard TD pass from Shegog to LeGrone. The Statesmen defense held serve the rest of the way, giving DSU the win. 49-14 Delta State final.
