HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jonathan Dewberry singled the first pitch of the game up the middle but was called out trying to take second after a fielder's choice hit into by Kirkland Trahan. Trahan was left on base to end the inning. West Florida started the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. An infield hit with runners at the corners plated their third run of the game. A bases-loaded walk brought in the fourth Argo run before a base hit brought in two more runs. A two-out 2 RBI double pushed the lead to eight. 8-0 West Florida after 1.
  • Eric Newsom hit a leadoff single in the second but was out at second after a fielder's choice by Carson Clowers. Clowers moved to second after a one-out single from Brett Burrell, but both were left on. An RBI single with two on and no outs scored the ninth Argo run and put runners at the corners. Two more runs scored on a bases-loaded single. 11-0 West Florida after 2.
  • Brendan McCauley was left on base in the third after a one-out walk. UWF picked up a hit but an inning-ending double play meant they only sent three to the plate in the bottom of the third. Eric Newsom drew an HBP and Clowers picked up an infield single in the top of the fourth. West Florida stranded two base hits in the bottom of the fourth. 11-0 West Florida after 4.
  • Noah Thigpen singled to leadoff the fifth, moved to second after a groundout, and scored on an RBI single from Trahan. Trahan moved to third after a two-out double from Hayden Cooper just before the game was halted due to an hour-plus lightning delay. A groundout would end the scoring threat when play resumed. West Flordia fell in order in the bottom of the fifth. 11-1 West Florida after 5.
  • Delta State sent three to the plate in the top of the sixth. West Florida added six runs in the bottom of the sixth, including three-run and two-run home runs. 17-1 West Florida after 6.
  • Rodney Hibler hit a one-out single in the top of the ninth, followed by a two-out single from Trahan. Trahan had Taylor Woodcock pinch run for him, allowing Trahan to head to the dugout to a standing ovation from his teammates and the Delta State fans. Hayden Cooper drew a walk to load that bases, but a flyout ended the threat and the game. 17-1 West Florida final.
