CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team (4-4-5, 3-3-4 GSC) look to clinch a spot in the GSC conference tournament this weekend as they host the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Statesmen will recognize their senior class Sunday with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff against the Blazers from Valdosta State University at Delta Field.
The Lady Statesmen enter the weekend ranked sixth in the Gulf South Conference looking to clinch a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2022 with a win and a Spring Hill loss or tie.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- Delta State enters the weekend with a 4-4-5 overall record and a 3-3-4 Gulf South Conference record. The Lady Statesmen are coming off a three-point road trip last weekend where they lost the Lee 2-0 last Friday and followed it up with a 1-0 win at Trevecca Nazarene last Sunday.
- Kennedi Turner scored her first goal of the season for the Lady Statesmen last weekend in Nashville in the Delta State win over TNU. Casey Stalder enters the weekend tied for fourth in the GSC with five total assists this season.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Ava Webster leads the Lady Statesmen with seven points on three goals and one assist this season. The Lady Statesmen have been exchanging starts between Senior Goalkeepers Bailey Daugherty and Olivia Griffin. Griffin is 2-0 in her last two appearances for Delta State
Scouting the Warhawks
- Auburn Montgomery enters the weekend with their backs against the wall needing two wins and some help from teams in front of them to clinch a spot in the GSC Tournament. The Warhawks are 4-8-2 with a 2-2-6 conference record.
- The Warhawks have one of the top goal scorers in the GSC in Laia Gonzalez. Gonzalez is tied for fourth in the conference with six goals on the season. Her teammate Reia Henry has four and is tied for 10th.
- The Warhawk defense averages the second highest goals allowed in the GSC as they allow 1.86 goals per game in 14 games played this year.
Scouting the Blazers
- The Blazers also enter this weekend needing a win and a Spring Hill loss or tie as they hold a 7-6-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 GSC conference record. The Blazers and the Lady Statesmen both hold 13 points entering the weekend with the Blazers having three games left compared to the Lady Statesmen's two games left in their regular season. The Blazers enter this weekend on a two-game winning streak, with wins against Union and Christian Brothers
- The Blazers offense is one of the top scoring offenses in the league as they average 1.9 goals per game ranking them second in the GSC in that category. Catherine Kimmel is Valdosta State's leading scorer as she ranks tenth in the GSC with 12 points this season.
- While the Blazers score 1.9 per game, they also give up 1.5 goals per game which puts them ninth in the conference.
