BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Delta State University Football players;
Ahmir Taylor,
Jonathan James and
Nick Clark earned weekly Gulf South Conference Honors announced by the conference office this morning.
Taylor led the Statesmen with six total tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, along with a sack causing a fumble that led to a Statesmen score in the 54-9 win over Chowan earning Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
James was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The Houston, Texas native was a key part in holding the Hawks to single digits as he blocked a field goal and an extra point attempt leading to
Tavian Moore returning the second Statesmen defensive two-point conversion of the season.
Clark earned Freshman of the Week honors helping the Statesmen in the win. The Daphne, Ala., native scored his first touchdown in his collegiate career with 9:47 left in the fourth quarter from three yards out as a part of his eight carries for 42 yards.
The Statesmen (4-1, 1-0 GSC) will continue conference play this week as they travel to Pensacola, Fla., this Saturday (Oct. 12) to take on the Argonauts of the University of West Florida at PenAir Field.
