Cleveland, Miss. -- The Delta State University softball team hosted Arkansas Monticello for a doubleheader.
Yazmin Jackson drew the start for game one. UAM took the lead in the first inning, scoring four runs and then adding six more in the top of the second inning. DSU battled back with
Alyssa Gover hitting two home runs while
Sydney Pevey and
MyCala Helms hit home runs. UAM defeated DSU 13-8 in game one.
Audry Rumsey drew the start for game two for the Lady Statesmen. Rumsey had full control of the game and pitched a complete game. Rumsey only allowed four hits in the game.
Abbi Cataldo got the Green and White on the board in the second inning with a two-run home run. In the third inning,
Sydney Pevey drove
Raegan Stafford in to extend the lead to 3-0.
Kyleigh Wheaton drove in
MyCala Helms to extend the lead to 4-0 in the third inning. In the fourth inning,
Raegan Stafford drove in Cataldo and
Alyssa Gover scored on a wild pitch making the DSU lead 6-0. In the fifth inning,
Calli McConnell drove in
Marin Beeson to make it 7-0. Cataldo singled to drive in
Mattie Granberry which made it 8-0 to run rule UAM.
