Lady Statesmen Host Senior Day, Fall in Season Finale Doubleheader

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen wrapped up the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day doubleheader against Mississippi State. The Choctaws took both games, but the Lady Statesmen made sure to send off their seniors with a memorable pregame ceremony. The seniors honored in the event were Alyssa Gover, Raegan Stafford, Sydney Pevey, MyCala Helms, and Lindsey Coffey.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
  • The Choctaws defeated the Lady Statesmen 18-1 in five innings, outhitting them 18-4. Helms, Gover, Stafford, and Abbi Cataldo recorded the hits for DSU. Laney Daigrepont drew a one-out walk in the second inning. Her courtesy runner, Mattie Granberry, stole second and scored on a Gover RBI single.
Game Two
  • MC scored three runs in the top of the first on three hits, including a two-run home run. Stafford and Helms recorded hits in the bottom of the first. 3-0 MC after one.
  • The Choctaws left a runner on base in the second as the Lady Statesmen went in order. MC left two on in the third inning; Nevaeh Lopez singled for DSU in the bottom of the inning. The Choctaws fell in order in the top of the fourth while Cataldo put the Lady Statesmen on the board with a solo homer in the DSU half of the frame. 3-1 MC after four.
  • Both sides sent just three to the plate in the fifth. MC added two runs in the top of the sixth on three hits. Stafford and Helms recorded singles for DSU in the bottom of the sixth. 5-1 MC after six.
  • MC stranded two runners after two hits in the top of the seventh. Daigrepont and Gover singled for the Lady Statesmen, but were left on base to end the game. 5-1 MC final.
