CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State Softball started a new GSC series Friday night at home against Christian Brothers. The Lady Statesmen out-hit the Bucs 7-4, including two home runs in their big series-opening victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Bucs went in order in the first; Kyleigh Wheaton was the first baserunner of the game after a two-out walk. CBU left one on base in the second inning. Calli McConnell was hit by a pitch and Laney Daigrepont singled in the bottom of the second. The Bucs managed a two-out hit in the top of the third. Sydney Pevey singled to start the bottom of the third and moved to second on a sac bunt by Raegan Stafford. Wheaton singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Abbi Cataldo singled to score Pevey. 1-0 Delta State after three.
• CBU went in order in the fourth. Daigrepont reached on an error to lead the bottom of the fourth and was represented by Mattie Granberry as a courtesy runner. Emma Collier and Nevaeh Lopez laid down bunts to move Granberry to third, allowing her to score on an error later in the inning. 2-0 Delta State after four.
• The Bucs stranded the bases loaded in the fifth after two hits. Delta State also picked up two hits in the bottom of the fifth in the form of home runs by Cataldo and MyCala Helms. 4-0 Delta State after five.
• Both sides saw a baserunner in the sixth inning, including a double by DSU's Collier. CBU put a runner at third with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a groundout ended the scoring threat and the game. 4-0 Delta State final.

ON THE MOUND

• Emma Enderud pitched a complete game shut-out in game one of the series, allowing just four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Lady Statesmen finish the series tomorrow (4/6) with a doubleheader at University Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
