BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University Football's
Tavian Moore and
Lawrence Armstrong both earned Gulf South Conference Weekly honors announced this morning by the conference office.
Lawrence Armstrong earned the GSC's Offensive Player of the Week after an explosive performance in DSU's 41-38 win against No. 11 West Alabama Saturday afternoon in Livingston. Armstrong hauled in two receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the second quarter as the Statesmen pulled ahead by 17 going into the half.
Armstrong's first reception was a 33-yard touchdown reception with 4:34 remaining in the first half to give the Statesmen a 20-10 lead. On the following offensive possession, Armstrong got behind the West Alabama secondary on the first play for a 75-yard touchdown reception to give DSU a 27-17 lead with 2:05 remaining.
Tavian Moore had a career day for the Statesmen. The Huntsville, Ala., native had a career high 13 tackles and an interception on the first possession of the game that led to a Statesmen Score.
Moore made the play of the game, making a tackle on 4
th and two to force a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter as the Statesmen led 41-31.
The Statesmen will be back at home this weekend as they will welcome the Argonauts from the University of West Florida. Kickoff will be at 3:00 p.m. (CDT) from Parker-McCool Stadium.
