MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The Delta State University men's soccer earned a
1–1 draw on the road against Montevallo at Varsity Field Friday night.
Montevallo struck first just three minutes into the match, but Delta State responded with poise, gradually finding their rhythm and creating quality chances throughout the contest. The breakthrough came late, as
Ashton Taylor found the back of the net in the
89th minute, finishing a well-placed pass from
Santi Rossi to level the score at 1–1.
Goalkeeper
Mason Baglio was outstanding between the posts, recording
nine saves, including several critical stops in the second half that kept the Statesmen within striking distance.
Offensively, Delta State registered
10 total shots with
three on target, while their defense tightened in the closing stages to deny Montevallo any late opportunities.
Braden Taylor,
Alfie Lally, and
Matthew Nicklas each contributed to the attacking effort with multiple attempts.
The Statesmen will wrap up their season with a trip to Montgomery, Ala., Sunday afternoon to take on the Warhawks from Auburn University-Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. CT.
