CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (17-5, 10-2 GSC) host the Blazers from Valdosta State University (13-10, 9-2 GSC) for a three-game series this weekend in Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
The two teams will face off in a double header on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m., (CDT) followed by a single game Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CDT). The Statesmen enter this weekend ranked 12
th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Poll and are 19
th in the D2 Baseball Poll.

Scouting the Statesmen
- Delta State enters this weekend with a 17-5 overall record and a 10-2 record in GSC play putting them a half game above the Blazers for the lead in the GSC Standings. Delta State is coming off a 20-11 win against Arkansas Monticello Tuesday afternoon in Monticello.
- At the plate, senior outfielder Brett Burrell is off to a hot start to the 2025 season. The Cleveland native is hitting .465 with a team high 30 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .789. Against the Weevils Tuesday night, Burrell was a triple away from hitting the cycle as he went 3-6 with a double, a two-run home run and five runs driven in.
- On the mound, the Statesmen have had solid production from their weekend starters this season. Senior right hander Drake Fontenot has been named the NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week after throwing eight scoreless innings and striking out 11 batters last Friday against Christian Brothers. The Bossier City Native holds a 5-0 record with 46 strikeouts and a ERA of 0.68 in 39.2 innings pitched this season.
Scouting the Blazers
- Valdosta State is entering this weekend winning eight of their last nine games as they are 13-10 overall and 9-2 in GSC Play. The Blazers won their mid-week non-conference game against the Bobcats from Georgia College Tuesday 5-1.
- At the dish, Marcos Sevillano and Orlando Pena are two standouts for VSU early on in the 2025 season. Sevillano leads all Blazer hitters with a .466 batting average, 14 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Pena has provided the power in the Blazer lineup as he is batting. 318 with 32 RBIs and seven home runs.
- On the mound the Statesmen will see senior right hander Hunter Booth. The Saint Petersburg, Fla., native holds a 3-2 record with a 2.75 ERA in six starts this season. Last Friday Booth struck out 10 batters
