No. 12 Statesmen Set to Host AUM for Senior Weekend

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Baseball Team (29-12, 21-6 GSC) will host a three-game series against the Warhawks from Auburn University at Montgomery (11-30, 8-19 GSC) this afternoon and Tomorrow at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
 
The Statesmen and the Warhawks will play the series opener this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. (CDT), at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field. The two teams will finish the three-game series with a double header tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and on the FloCollege Network.
 
Scouting the Statesmen
  • Delta State enters this weekend with a 29-12 overall record and a 21-6 record in conference play. The Statesmen enter this weekend ranked no. 12 in the National Baseball Writers' Association National Poll.
  • The Statesmen have a strong weekend rotation starting with senior right hander Drake Fontenot. The Bossier City, La., native tossed his second complete game of the season against Trevecca Nazarene last Friday afternoon. Fontenot has a 9-0 record with a 1.24 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Fontenot and Senior lefty Dylan Farley tossed complete games last weekend. Farley tossed his first complete game of the season with a season high 11 strikeouts in the game two win against Trevecca Nazarene.
  • At the plate, the Statesmen had had solid production out of the top of the order starting with senior outfielder Wes Warnock. Warnock went 5-13 last weekend with three runs driven in. Brett Burrell has led the Statesmen all season with a .401 batting average with 11 doubles, and 44 runs driven in.
Scouting the Warhawks
  • Auburn Montgomery enters this weekend 11-30 overall record with a 8-19 record in conference play. The Warhawks enter this weekend on a four-game losing streak after getting swept by Union last weekend in Jackson, Tenn.
  • On the Mound, the Statesmen will likely see right hander Clay Slagle. The Montgomery native holds a 2-1 overall record with a 6.08 ERA, 51 strikeouts, and 21 walks in 11 starts.
  • At the plate, AUM is led by senior outfielder Tyrese Rooks. The Mobile native enters this weekend with a .347 batting average with eight doubles, four home runs and 24 RBIs. In the series against Union, Rooks went 2-6 with two runs driven in.
