CLINTON, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (12-33, 5-24 GSC) fell in the series opener against the Choctaws from Mississippi College (32-15, 20-11 GSC) 10-2 this afternoon from the MC Softball Complex in Clinton.
The Lady Statesmen had a multi-hit performance from sophomore infielder
Kyleigh Wheaton. The Gentry native went 2-3 on the afternoon with two singles.
Delta State got on the board early with a run in the top of the first after a walk and an error would lead to a rbi fielder's choice from
Abbi Cataldo to give the green and white a 1-0 lead.
DSU would keep the 1-0 lead before a five-run third inning from the Choctaws to make it 5-1.
In the top of the sixth, Delta State would add a run on with a bases loaded walk from
Avery Ragsdale to make it 6-2.
The Choctaws added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end it with a 10-2 final score.
The two teams will be finishing the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at the MC Softball Complex with a double header starting at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
