Lady Statesmen Finish Regular Season at MC

CLINTON, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball Team (12-35, 5-26 GSC) battled in their double header this afternoon against the Lady Choctaws from Mississippi College (34-15, 22-11) at the MC Softball Complex.
 
MC took game one 6-1 and won game two with a walk off 4-3.
 
GAME ONE
The Lady Statesmen had a three-hit performance from Bailey Way in game one against the Lady Choctaws.
 
In the circle, Ellie Cox went six innings and struck out two batters for the Lady Statesmen.
 
In the top of the third, Delta State would score to cut a three-run deficit to two as Way would score on an error from a Fielder's Choice from Mary Teague to make it 3-1.
 
GAME TWO
Delta State rallied back from being down 3-0 against the Lady Choctaws in game two. Senior outfielder Abbi Cataldo would go 3-4 in game two with a rbi in game two.
 
Emma Enderud had a season high seven strikeouts in the circle for the Lady Statesmen in game two.
 
In the top of the fifth, Mattie Granberry would get the Lady Statesmen on the board with a two-run double off the left field wall to cut the DSU deficit to one run.
 
Two batters later, Cataldo would tie the game up at 3-3 with a single through the left side scoring Granberry,
In the bottom half of the fifth, Enderud would get out of a bases loaded jam with back-to-back strikeouts to keep the game tied.
 
MC would win the game in the bottom of the seventh with a walk off single.
 
The Lady Statesmen finished the regular season with a 12-35 overall record and a 5-26 GSC record.
