LAKELAND, Fla. – The Delta State University Baseball Team's (33-20) season came to an end, losing 16-7 against the Florida Southern College Mocs (38-14-1) Saturday afternoon at Henley Field in Lakeland.
Delta State had multi-hit performances from seniors
Dylan Dendy and
Preston Soper. Dendy would reach base three out his four plate appearances as he went 2-3 with a walk.
The Statesmen rallied back from being down 8-0 early on as Soper hit a three-run home run and a two-run home run both over the left field fence in Henley Field. The Madison native went 4-7 in the Regional Tournament with three home runs and seven RBIs.
Delta State would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with Soper's three-run home run to make it 8-3. Later in the inning,
Jacob Hill would come around to score on a wild pitch after hitting a double to follow up Soper's three-run home run.
In the next inning,
Dylan Coleman would lead the inning off with a double down the left field line. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth,
Andin Johnson would drive in Coleman with a double to right center field to make it 9-5.
On the next at-bat, Soper would hit his second home run of the day over the left field fence to make it a two-run game at 9-7.
The Mocs would score seven runs late to make it 16-7.
Delta State finishes the season with a 33-20 overall record and a Gulf South Conference Regular Season Championship and their 37th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
