CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Soccer team (1-2-3, 0-0-2 GSC) controlled the pace in a 0-0 tie against the Badgers from Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.
Delta State's attack was relentless, firing 20 total shots to the Badgers' 6. The Lady Statesmen generated eight corner kicks and pressed the Spring Hill defense throughout the match. Midfielders
Mariela Dolan and
Caroline Chandler were especially active in creating chances, while
Millie Congerton and
Casey Stalder kept constant pressure in the final third.
The match's pivotal moment came in the 72nd minute when DSU earned a penalty kick. Defender
Ava Webster stepped to the spot, but her effort was narrowly off target, denying the Statesmen a deserved breakthrough.
On the other end, the back line anchored by
Ava Steven and
Mackenzie Winters stood firm, allowing just three shots on goal all afternoon. Goalkeeper
Piper Burgess turned away every attempt to record the clean sheet, highlighted by a diving stop in the first half and a clutch save late in the 86th minute.
Delta State will be back in action next weekend with a road trip to Union University on Friday followed by a home match against Christian Brothers University on Sunday.
