Lady Statesmen Complete Day One at The Gulf Shores Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Delta State University softball team opened its 2026 campaign with a triple header on Friday at the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Lady Statesmen (0-3) fell to Middle Georgia State University, Florida Tech, and Northeastern State University.
 
GAME 1: Middle Georgia State 11, Delta State 3
The Lady Statesmen started the morning with an offensive spark, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Kyleigh Wheaton provided the early fireworks, launching a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Delta State ahead. The lead grew in the second when Alyssa Wilson crossed the plate following a sacrifice fly.
 
However, Middle Georgia responded with a four-run third inning to take the lead. The Knights eventually broke the game open in the sixth, capitalizing on late-inning miscues to secure the victory.

GAME 2: Florida Tech 8, Delta State 3
In the afternoon match up, Delta State squared off against Florida Tech in a high-hit affair. The Lady Statesmen matched the Panthers early on, keeping the game within reach at 2-1 through three innings.
 
Delta State's offense found rhythm in the fifth inning as Kendall Harper and Callie McConnell delivered RBI singles to keep the pressure on. Ally Agner led the way with a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3. Despite the effort, Florida Tech's consistent scoring in the final three frames proved too much to overcome.

GAME 3: Northeastern State 8, Delta State 0
The nightcap featured a defensive battle early on between Delta State and Northeastern State. Grace Pippin returned to the circle, throwing four solid innings and striking out three while holding the RiverHawks to just two runs through the first four frames.
 
Offensively, Joryie McKnight provided a bright spot with a double, while Wheaton and Harper each added hits. Northeastern State pulled away in the fifth and sixth innings to end the contest.
