CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University women's soccer team scored in the 88th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over AUM on Saturday at Delta Field, extending its Gulf South Conference record to 5-1-2 and improving to 6-3-3 overall.

The Lady Statesmen received goals from Millie Congerton and Mariela Dolan, with Dolan delivering the decisive strike late in the second half to lift Delta State to the conference victory.

Delta State broke through in the closing minutes of the first half when Congerton found the back of the net in the 44th minute. Her third goal of the season gave the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

AUM responded early in the second half, as Chloe Wallace scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Eva Hendriks to even the match at 1-1.

The teams battled through the middle portion of the second half, with both sides creating opportunities to take the lead. Goalkeeper Kim Bircher helped keep the Lady Statesmen level, finishing with four saves on the afternoon.

With time winding down, Delta State found the breakthrough they needed. In the 88th minute, Emma Earwood assisted Dolan, who scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Lady Statesmen ahead 2-1. Delta State held off the Warhawks over the final minutes to secure the win.

AUM finished with a 14-10 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Warhawks also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, but Delta State capitalized on its opportunities to earn the victory.
