RICHARDSON, Texas — The Delta State University men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State, 4-0, and UT Dallas, 5-2, at the UTD Tennis Complex. The Statesmen improved to 2-0 on the season following a strong showing across both doubles and singles play.
Delta State opened the day with a convincing 4-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Statesmen secured the doubles point behind strong performances from the tandems of Juan Diego Alzate and Alejandro Bravo, who earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and Valentin Greco and Simon Ojeda, who followed with a decisive 6-2 victory at No. 2. Southeastern Oklahoma claimed the No. 3 doubles match, but Delta State's early momentum carried into singles competition.
Alzate extended the Statesmen lead with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Greco delivered another key point at No. 3 singles, battling through a competitive first set before securing a 7-6, 6-0 win. Bravo sealed the match-clinching point with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles to secure the shutout.
In the nightcap, Delta State continued its strong play with a 5-2 win over UT Dallas. The Statesmen swept all three doubles matches to take early control. The No. 1 duo of Greco and Ojeda earned a 6-3 victory, while Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentino Millimaci matched that score at No. 2. Joaquin Jarochevsky and Taylor Parker capped the sweep with an emphatic 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Delta State carried that momentum into singles play, earning four straight-set victories. Greco dominated at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Cerda Castillo followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Bravo remained perfect on the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Millimaci completed a flawless performance at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 result. UT Dallas picked up wins at the top two singles positions, but the Statesmen's depth proved decisive.
Across the doubleheader, Bravo and Greco each went unbeaten in singles, helping lead a balanced effort that saw Delta State win eight singles matches and five doubles contests on the day.
Delta State will look to keep momentum with a match tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 against the Mustangs from Western New Mexico University at the UTD Tennis Complex.
