CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Delta State University baseball completed a doubleheader and three-game sweep of No. 17 Lee University on Saturday, earning a 9–3 victory in the opener before rallying for a dramatic 9–8 win in game two to remain unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play in Larry Carpenter Stadium.
With the pair of wins, the Statesmen improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the GSC.
Game One
In the first game, Delta State broke open a tight contest with a three-run fifth inning and added four more in the sixth to pull away. The Statesmen finished with 13 hits, highlighted by multi-hit performances from
Jacob Hill,
Levi Lang,
Walker Maranto,
Stone Collier, and
Austin Estes. Lang delivered the biggest swing with a three-run double in the sixth, while Estes collected three hits and drove in a run.
On the mound,
Blake King earned the win after allowing three runs over 5.1 innings, and
Aidan McCrady closed the final 3.2 innings without surrendering a run to secure the 9–3 decision.
Game Two
Game two featured late-inning drama as Delta State erased an eighth-inning deficit to complete the sweep. After falling behind early, the Statesmen surged ahead with a five-run sixth inning before Lee answered with four runs in the bottom half to take an 8–7 lead.
Delta State responded in the seventh, tying the game on a hit-by-pitch before
Jacob Hill delivered the go-ahead RBI single.
Dawson Muenzenmay then struck out three in a scoreless final inning to record the save, while
Alex McHale earned the relief victory.
Austin Estes paced the offense in the nightcap with two RBIs, and timely contributions from Hill,
Tucker Jones, and
Brady Hendrix fueled the comeback as the Statesmen secured the 9–8 triumph.
