CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, sweeping Spring Hill College, 7–0, at the MC Tennis Complex to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Lady Statesmen improved to 5-0 overall by claiming the doubles point and winning all six singles matches in straight sets or decisive fashion. Delta State opened the afternoon with victories on all three doubles courts, highlighted by a 6-3 win from
Amelia Ciesielczyk and
Trinity Ly at No. 1 and a 7-6 triumph by
Anastasiia Iakovlieva and
Yasmina Mayer at No. 2.
Lena Kuehn and
Angie Moreno secured the sweep with a 6-1 result on court three.
In singles play, Ciesielczyk set the tone with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Ly followed with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 2. Mayer (6-4, 6-2), Iakovlieva (6-0, 6-2), and Kuehn (6-2, 6-0) each posted straight-set victories to clinch the team result. Moreno battled through three sets at No. 6, rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 decision to complete the shutout.
Ciesielczyk's strong performance comes on the heels of being named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, continuing an impressive start to her collegiate career.
With the win, Delta State continues its strong start to the spring schedule and looks to carry momentum into its next competition, as they start GSC play against the Lady Flames from Lee University this upcoming Saturday at the Cleveland Country Club at 11:00 a.m. (CT).
