Big Sixth inning lifts Statesmen over Tigers in Mid-Week Clash

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The No. 22 ranked Delta State University Baseball team used a five-run sixth inning to break open a tight game and secure an 8–4 road win over Ouachita Baptist University on Tuesday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field. The victory moves the Statesmen to 10–2 on the year behind a balanced offensive effort and strong work from the bullpen.

Delta State struck early with a pair of first-inning runs, capitalizing on a lead off single from Jacob Hill and three consecutive walks. Stone Collier and Cael Allen each drew RBI bases-loaded walks to give DSU a 2–0 lead. Ouachita answered with two runs in the third, including a solo homer from Reece McWilliams, to even the score at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the sixth, when the Statesmen took full control. With two outs, Hill reached on an error and Tucker Jones followed with an RBI single to put DSU back in front. Another error extended the inning, and Levi Lang added an RBI single before Collier delivered a two-run single to cap the five-run frame. Delta State added an insurance run in the eighth on Collier's RBI ground out.

Lang led the offense with a 3-for-4 day, scoring twice and driving in one. Hill scored two runs and added two hits, while Maranto and Jones each posted multi-hit games. Collier finished with four RBI, matching a season high.

On the mound, Ryan Herbison earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Gavin McCoy and Eli Akins combined for three shutout innings before Hayden Dodson closed the ninth. Delta State's bullpen allowed just one earned run over the final 5.2 innings.

Ouachita's late push came on a two-run homer from Joseph Bolin in the ninth, but Dodson retired the final two hitters to seal the win.

Delta State returns home this weekend for a Gulf South Conference series at Ferriss Field against No. 8 West Florida. The Statesmen and Argos will face off Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) followed by a double header Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
