Statesmen Split Saturday doubleheader, winning the Season Series against Spring Hill

Mobile, Ala. — The Delta State University baseball team finished the opening weekend with a doubleheader split, winning the three-game series at Spring Hill College on Saturday, taking Game One 10–5 before falling 5–2 in the nightcap at Sims-Galle Field. The Statesmen moved to 3–1 on the season behind a strong offensive showing in the opener and a pair of multi-hit performances in Game Three.

Game One: Delta State 10, Spring Hill 5
Delta State erupted for nine runs across the seventh and eighth innings to break open a tight contest and secure the first win of the afternoon.
After trailing 1–0 early, DSU tied the game in the third when Austin Estes singled and later scored on Cade Greer's RBI groundout. Pitcher Blake King kept the Statesmen in striking distance with 5.2 innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits while striking out three.

The breakthrough came in the seventh. A hit-by-pitch and walk set the table before a Spring Hill throwing error allowed Stone Collier to score the go-ahead run. Jacob Hill added a sacrifice fly, and Tucker Jones delivered an RBI single as DSU surged ahead 5–1.

The Statesmen put the game out of reach with a five-run eighth inning. Hill doubled home two, Jones added his third hit of the game, and Bo Rock capped the rally with a two-run double down the right-field line.
Spring Hill added late offense, but Colby Lafayette closed the door in the ninth to secure the win.

Despite six hits, the Statesmen were held off the board over the final three innings by Spring Hill reliever Garrett Lott, who earned the save with four strikeouts across two hitless frames.
