Statesmen out slug Reddies in 14-10 midweek win

CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University Baseball team used a pair of explosive middle innings to power past Henderson State, 14-10, Tuesday evening at Ferriss Field.

After falling behind 3-0 through two innings, the Statesmen (19-13, 13-8 GSC) erupted for 14 runs across the third and fourth innings, turning the game completely in their favor. DSU plated seven runs in each frame, collecting 14 of its 17 hits during the surge.

Tucker Jones led the offensive onslaught, finishing 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a pair of doubles that ignited the comeback. Levi Lang added a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, while Cade Greer recorded three hits and drove in a run.

Delta State's rally began in the third inning when Jones delivered a two-run double to cut into the deficit. The Statesmen continued to capitalize on timely hitting and a Henderson State error, eventually taking a 7-3 lead by the end of the frame.

The momentum carried into the fourth, where DSU's bats stayed hot. Cooper Walls, Henley Parker, and Austin Estes each drove in runs before Jones struck again with a two-RBI double. Lang capped the inning with a two-run homer to left center, extending the lead to 14-3.

On the mound, Carson Homitz (1-0) earned his first collegiate career win in relief, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out four. The Statesmen used five pitchers in the contest, combining for 10 strikeouts.
Henderson State (19-13, 10-11 GAC) mounted a late push with runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Delta State finished with 17 hits on the night, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Jones, Lang, Greer, Landon Holliman, and Henley Parker.

The Statesmen will look to carry the momentum into their next Gulf South Conference matchup as the Falcons from the University of Montevallo come to town later this week. The three-game series is set to start on Thursday at a time to be determined.
