Baseball's Tucker Jones earns Gulf South Conference Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University Baseball's junior outfielder Tucker Jones has earned this week's Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors announced this morning by the conference office.

Jones had a tremendous week at the plate last week as he batted .500 going 10-20 with 10 runs driven in with a double, triple and a home run.

The Brandon native was a huge factor in the Statesmen's three-game sweep against the Chargers from UAH this past weekend as in the series he went 8-15 with nine runs driven in including a clutch two-run single in the top of the seventh inning in the series finale that tied the game up at 4-4. Jones would come around to score on an Austin Batts rbi single to give the Statesmen a 6-4 lead.

On the season Jones is batting .357 with a team high six home runs and 41 runs driven in. The Brandon native also is leading the Gulf South Conference with 20 stolen bags on 20 attempts.

Tucker and the Statesmen are in action this afternoon at Harvey Stadium at Boo Ferriss Field against the Reddies from Henderson State University. That game will start at 5:00 p.m. (CT).
