CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State baseball swept Friday's Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Christian Brothers at Ferriss Field, taking Game 1 by a 15–8 margin before storming back for a 9–7 win in the nightcap. The sweep pushed the Statesmen to
13–5 overall and 9–2 in GSC play, while the Buccaneers fell to
4–15 and 0–11 in the league.
Game 1: Delta State 15, Christian Brothers 8
Delta State's offense erupted early and never slowed, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings and piling up 14 hits in a 15–8 victory.
Cade Greer powered the attack with a pair of home runs and four RBI, finishing 3-for-3 with four runs scored.
Austin Estes added two triples and two RBI, while
Bo Rock and
Drew Prosek each recorded multi-hit games. The Statesmen capitalized on 11 walks and three CBU errors, including a four-run first inning and a three-run third that stretched the lead to 10–2.
Alex McHale earned the win in relief, allowing one run over three innings with four strikeouts.
Adrian Byrd struck out eight over 3.2 innings in the start.
Christian Brothers tallied 16 hits, led by Isaac Lemanski's three-hit effort and Will Gossett's solo home run, but Delta State's early scoring cushion held firm.
Game 2: Delta State 9, Chirstian Brothers 7
The nightcap required a rally after CBU built leads of 4–1 and 7–3 behind home runs from Zowen Collins and Ivan Zambrano. Delta State answered with a decisive six-run sixth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate to flip the game.
Stone Collier and
Austin Estes delivered RBI singles before
Tucker Jones delivered the swing of the day—a go-ahead grand slam to left that turned a 7–5 deficit into a 9–7 lead.
Jones finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI. Prosek added two hits and two runs, and Estes drove in another run as DSU surged late.
Dawson Muenzenmay improved to 3–0 after throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close the sweep.
Blake King and
Ryan Herbison combined for the first 5.0 innings before Muenzenmay shut the door.
Delta State looks to complete the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CT) from Ferriss Field.
