Lady Statesmen Fall to Trojans in Friday Twinbill

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Delta State University softball team dropped both games of a Gulf South Conference doubleheader to Trevecca Nazarene University Friday afternoon at the TNU Softball Complex, falling 6-1 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

Game One – Trevecca Nazarene 6, Delta State 1
Trevecca Nazarene used a steady offensive attack to take the opener, scoring in four of the first five innings to build control early. The Trojans tallied 11 hits on the afternoon, led by Addy Grace and Annalise Mecklenburg, who combined for five hits and five RBIs.

Delta State (12-27, 6-16 GSC) managed seven hits, with Maya Mills leading the way with a 2-for-2 performance and scoring the lone run. Carly Dunigan added a pair of hits, while Laney Daigrepont recorded a double.

Trevecca struck first in the opening inning and added another run in the second before breaking the game open with a three-run fourth inning. Mecklenburg delivered the key blow in the frame with a two-RBI single.

The Lady Statesmen got on the board in the fifth inning when Mills scored on a sacrifice fly from Calli McConnell, but that would be the only run of the contest.

Game Two – Trevecca Nazarene 9, Delta State 1 (5 inn.)
Trevecca carried its momentum into game two, using a five-run second inning to take early control and secure the run-rule victory.

Brookelyn Miles highlighted the inning with a three-run home run and finished the game with four RBIs. Annabelle Ellis added two hits and two RBIs, while Shay Hollingsworth drove in a pair.

Delta State (12-28, 6-17 GSC) was limited to five hits in the nightcap. Hallie Turner paced the offense with a 2-for-2 performance and scored the team's lone run. Rebecca Martinez drove in the run with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Trevecca added four more runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead and put the game out of reach.
