TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Delta State University men's tennis team saw its 2026 season come to an end Thursday morning with a 4-0 loss to No. 12 Lee in the Gulf South Conference Men's Tennis Championship quarterfinals at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
The Statesmen finished the year with an 11-10 overall record after earning a spot in the conference tournament and battling one of the nation's top-ranked teams in the opening round. Lee improved to 12-1 on the season with the victory.
Lee claimed the doubles point after taking wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Flames earned a 6-4 victory over Alejandro Bravo and Simon Ojeda at the No. 2 spot before Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimaraes secured the point with a 6-2 win over Juan Diego Alzate and Joaquin Jarochevsky at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Valentino Millimaci and Valentin Greco was left unfinished with Lee leading 5-4.
In singles play, Lee quickly added to its lead with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Francisco Guimaraes defeated Millimaci 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, while Razminas topped Ojeda 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
The match-clinching point came at No. 3 singles, where Jip Langerhuizen defeated Alzate 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 to send Lee to the semifinals.
Several other matches were left unfinished, including a strong showing from Greco at No. 1 singles against nationally ranked Filipe Krohn. Greco claimed the opening set in a tiebreak before the match was halted. Marti Cerda Castillo was also locked in a battle at No. 2 singles after splitting the first two sets.
Despite the loss, Delta State closes the season with 11 wins, an improvement from the 2024-25 season and another postseason appearance under its belt.
