JACKSON, Miss. — The Delta State University women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Jackson State on Tuesday at the JSU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Statesmen fell to 10-7 on the season, while Jackson State improved to 10-9.
Jackson State took control early by sweeping the completed doubles matches to secure the opening point. At No. 1 doubles,
Amelia Ciesielczyk and
Yasmina Mayer were defeated 6-1 by Helen Hernandez and Victoria Linkovski.
Anastasiia Iakovlieva and
Trinity Ly fell 6-1 at the No. 2 position, while the No. 3 match featuring
Lena Kuehn and
Angie Moreno was left unfinished.
In singles play, Jackson State clinched the match with straight-set victories on courts two, five and six.
Trinity Ly dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles, while
Lena Kuehn fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.
Angie Moreno was defeated 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.
Several other matches went unfinished after the Tigers secured the team victory, including competitive efforts at the top of the lineup. Ciesielczyk trailed 7-5, 4-2 at No. 1 singles when play was halted, while Iakovlieva and Mayer were also in action in unfinished matches.
Delta State will look to bounce back in its next outing as Gulf South Conference play continues with a home match Friday against the Falcons from the University of Montevallo at the Cleveland Country Club.
