JACKSON, Miss. — The Delta State University men's tennis team picked up a 4-2 road victory over Jackson State on Tuesday at the JSU Tennis Center.
The Statesmen (9-9) secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three.
Alejandro Bravo and
Simon Ojeda cruised to a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while
Juan Diego Alzate and
Joaquin Jarochevsky sealed the point with a 6-4 win in the third position.
In singles play, Delta State clinched the match with three victories.
Marti Cerda Castillo earned a win at No. 1 singles after his opponent was forced to retire, and Bravo added another point at No. 4 singles via retirement as well.
Alzate delivered a key three-set victory at No. 3 singles, rallying from a first-set loss to defeat Jhoan Vaquero 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 and secure the decisive point for the Statesmen.
Jackson State (6-12) picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, while the match at No. 5 singles went unfinished.
Delta State will look to carry the momentum into its next match as conference play continues later this week as the Statesmen will host the Falcons from the University of Montevallo at the Cleveland Country Club Friday afternoon.
