JACKSON, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team dropped a road match to Jackson State University, 5-1, on Monday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Complex.
Jackson State controlled the tempo early, finding the back of the net twice in the opening 18 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers added three more goals in the second half to extend their advantage.
Despite the final scoreline, the Lady Statesmen showed resilience in the second half, generating 12 of their 13 total shots after the break and consistently applying pressure in the attacking third.
Caroline Chandler provided the highlight for Delta State, scoring her second goal of the season in the 80th minute to put the Lady Statesmen on the board.
In goal,
Piper Burgess made seven saves in the first half, while
Kim Bircher added five stops in relief as Delta State combined for 12 saves on the day.
Jackson State held a 29-13 advantage in total shots and a 17-6 edge in shots on goal. Both teams finished with seven corner kicks.
Delta State will look to bounce back, next Saturday as the Lady Statesmen travel to Valdosta for their conference opener against the Blazers next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
